Hi, I am Sarah Walters, an experienced Registered Dietitian who is passionate about helping people improve both physical and mental health through creating healthy habits.

I have worked for several years helping people learn about nutrition and make lifestyle behaviour change. My work experience has included providing nutrition counselling at BC Cancer Agency and through tele-health services at HealthLink BC.

I believe in strength-based approaches, which draws on people's strengths and past successes, to help increase confidence in making change. I aim to create a non-judgemental environment, where people feel safe to share their struggles, so that we can work together and tackle their barriers.

Back Story:

Before I started my nutrition and science education at the University of British Columbia, I made the mistake of looking up my nutrition questions online, from any person who preached nutrition.  As many people do, I didn’t pay attention to whether or not it was science-based.

Despite how convincing their claims were, their advice didn’t provide me with health, nor happiness, that it promised, and it left me with more questions than answers. This sparked my interest in learning more about the science behind nutrition.

My first quest was to figure out what nutrients the human body needs and how to get enough. My interest in learning about nutrition didn't end there, and I have continued to learn more and more about nutrition and health.

Through this journey of learning about nutrition, I have recognized that making change is not easy. Health decisions are not just simply about knowing what to do, but also depends on your environment, life situation, your coping mechanisms, your daily thoughts and emotions, and more. To be able to help people navigate this and successfully make behaviour change, I have learned about what drives human behaviour and what helps people with overcoming barriers.
